Hall, Garcia T-8 At Supersport Ladies Challenge

Welcome to the Free Drop Sunshine Ladies Tour wrap where each day throughout the season we re-cap the performances of our former guests.

Here’s all you need to know from Round one of the Supersport Ladies Challenge at Gary Player Country Club.

T-8. Casandra Hall (+2)

Casandra Hall began with two pars before a first red-number of the day at the 12th before giving it straight back with a bogey at the 13th. Bouncing back immediately with her second birdie in three holes, Hall proceeded to bogey the 17th as she turned in level-par.

On her second-nine, Hall once again bounced back from a bogey – which came at the 4th with a birdie at her very next hole. A double-bogey at her penultimate hole spoiled what had up to that point been a solid day of golf but at 2-over par she is far from out of the tournament.

T-8. Nicole Garcia (+2)

Garcia’s round got off to a shaky start with three dropped shots over her opening five holes. She demonstrated the character which makes her one of the best in the country though with back-to-back birdies at the 7th and 8th respectively.

Having been rock-solid for the better-part of the back-nine, Garcia bogeyed the 16th-hole before signing for a two-over par 74.

T-14. Cara Gorlei (+3)

Cara Gorlei made a very solid start to her SuperSport Ladies Challenge. Beginning on the Gary Player Country Club’s back-nine, the 25-year-old carded her first birdie of the day at the par-5 11th. A birdie-2 at the 13th gave her a share of the early lead. Gorlei closed out her first nine with five straight pars to turn in two-under 34.

A steady start to the second-nine which consisted of four straight pars was undone by a bogey at the 5th. A triple-bogey at the 66th compounded the setback and a bogey at her penultimate hole consigned Gorlei to a second-nine of 41 and a three-over par 75.

T-21. Ivanna Samu (+4)

Samu made an assured start to her day with four pars in a row. The 22-year-old quickly canceled out a bogey at the 14th with a birdie at the 15th. Two further bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes followed before Samu stopped the bleeding with a birdie at the 18th.

Samu struggled to get anything going on the back-nine dropping shots at the 1st and 2nd as well as the 5th and 6th. A birdie the par-3 7th meant Samu came home in 39 for a first-round tally of 76.
