Welcome to the Free Drop Sunshine Ladies Tour wrap where each day throughout the season we re-cap the performances of our former podcast guests.
Here’s all you need to know about round 2 of the Supersport Ladies Challenge at Gary Player Country Club.
T-8. Cara Gorlei (+4)
Today was one of those rounds Cara Gorlei will feel got away. Beginning on the front-nine, Gorlei made a flying start with three consecutive birdies to rocket up the leaderboard. Two more birdies at the 5th and 7th holes respectively helped the Milnerton Golf Club member assume top spot on the leaderboard. Despite ending her first-nine with consecutive bogeys, Gorlei still turned in an impressive three-under par 33.
A double-bogey at the par-4 11th followed by a further bogey at the next meant that all of the 25-year-old’s good work in the early part of the round had been undone. Another bogey at the 15th and the absence of a red-number on her card coming home consigned Gorlei signed for a one-over par 73 – a score that was simply incomprehensible through 7 holes.
T-14. Casandra Hall (+6)
Casandra Hall was playing catch-up from the outset in round 2 after beginning with a triple-bogey 8 at the 1st. Despite bogeying the 4th hole as well, Hall repaired he damage significantly with a glorious eagle-3 at the 5th. A bogey at the 9th, however, saw her turn in three-over par 39.
Hall played assured golf to begin the back-nine – carding four pars in a row. Bogeys at the 14th and 18th and a birdie at the par-3 16th added up to an inward nine of 37 and a second-round 76 which has Hall in a four way tie for 14th-place.
T-18. Ivanna Samu (+7)
One adrift of Hall is Ivanna Samu who followed up her opening 76 with a three-over 75. Samu’s front-nine featured bogeys at the 2nd, 4th and 8th while her lone bogey over the outward half came at the par-3 7th.
Having turned in 38, Samu’s back-nine featured bogeys at the 11th and 13th holes and seven pars. In a tie for 18th heading into the final round, Samu will no doubt be looking to finish the tournament on a high.
T-29. Nicole Garcia (+11)
Playing in the company of Hall, Nicole Garcia’s round started brightly with a birdie at the 2nd. Her good start was derailed, however, by a run of double-bogey, bogey, bogey from the 4th. Another bogey at the 9th had Garcia four-over par at the turn.
A double-bogey start to the inward nine was followed by a birdie at the 11th. A tough three-hole stretch followed during which the 30-year-old went made back-to-back bogeys before a double-drop at the 14th.
To her credit, Garcia did manage to par in and will be looking to bounce back in the final round.
